Closet Organizing

Closet Organizing 101 – Closet Organizers

Sunburst Shutters offers a variety of closet organizers and designs to meet any budget and style. However, your closet needs to be functional in addition to being stylish. Here, we’ve compiled a list of factors you should keep in mind to make the most of your closet spaces.

Rotate

Keep the clothing that you are wearing most frequently in the most readily available areas. Out-of-season clothes, shoes, and accessories should be kept in the closet or in another closet.

Organize

Sort your clothes by category or color to make it easier to find exactly what you need. For additional help, you can insert garment organizers or used multicolored hangers to group your clothing.

If you want to see which clothing items you don’t use a lot, turn all the hangers in your closet the opposite way. Every time you wear an item, turn the hang around. After a few months, you can clearly see what clothing items you use and which probably can go in a deeper corner of the closet.

Double

Double hung closet rods are the best way to squeeze more storage space out of your closet. Measure the length of each item you’ll be hanging there and allow some clearance above and below each rod. Blouses, shirts, skirts, jackets, and kids’ clothes all are good options to use double rods on.

Cubbies

Organize your closet with a combination of double hanging rods, drawers, and shelves. Drawers corral small items such as socks while cubbies hold folded items. Upper shelves can store out-of-season shoes and clothing in clear bins with lids.

Shelves

Don’t flood your closet with too many shelves. Since shelves take up inches of storage space by themselves, too many of them can make it difficult to stack or remove items. The best shelves will fit exactly the various items that you have to store.

Mirrors

Make your closet more functional by hanging a large mirror on the wall behind the dresser. Alternatively, hang a floor-length mirror on a door.

Shoes

Keep the shoes you wear all the time accessible on shelves. Store away your seasonal and special- occasion shoes in easy-to-see clear plastic boxes on the top shelf of your closet. Alternatively, you can simply reuse the original box the shoes came in and attach a picture of the shoes to the box so you can easily see what’s inside.

Small Items

Create storage space for smaller items such as jewellery, scarves, belts, and socks. Narrow drawers in your closet should be outfitted with divider trays to keep things orderly.

Corners

It pays to use every inch of space. You can fill in corner areas with drawer units, shelves, or shoe cubbies.

Dust-Free Storage Space

Create at least a few options for dust-free storage. Cabinets with doors are great choices but are the most expensive solution. Clear or canvas hanging bags designed to hold multiple garments are budget-friendly alternatives.
